AFCB Community Sports Trust Special Events

BEACH FOOTBALL AND RUGBY

AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust joined together with Dorset Rugby Development and Bournemouth Borough Council in organising a Beach Football and Rugby event on Boscombe Beach for colleges, 6 teams took part including Bournemouth and Poole College who are pictured after taking part in the football.

The morning session involved coaching, gaining an understanding into the skills needed for both events which lead to an afternoons competition which involved all the teams completing in five football matches and 5 rugby games.

Steve Cuss, Head of Community Sports Trust at AFC Bournemouth said "Working in partnership with the Council and the Community Rugby Team has enabled us to offer this great opportunity to the colleges, one I hope was enjoyed by all".


FERNDOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL

ONE STEP FROM WEMBLEY

FOOTBALL LEAGUE COMMUNITY CUP

The final of the Football League Community Cup took place at Dean Court on Tuesday with Ferndown Middle School beating Haymoor Middle School 2-1.

AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust organised the six-a-side competition which started in the beginning of March and involved 26 schools, two separate competitions brought Haymoor and Ferndown together for the AFC Bournemouth Grand Final.

An exciting match saw Haymoor take a half time lead before Ferndown stormed back during the second half to win the game.

Ferndown Middle School will now represent AFC Bournemouth in the League 1 Southern Final at Leyton Orient FC on the 25th April. The winners of this will play the Northern Winners at Wembley Stadium prior to the League 1 play off final.

Steve Cuss, Head of AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust said “This is the fifth year the competition has run and this year saw the highest ever number of schools enter, the standard at both events was extremely high which culminated in an outstanding final between two evenly matched schools here at Dean Court. I would like to wish Ferndown Middle School the best of luck in the Southern Final and hope they can achieve their Wembley dream”


LEESON HOUSE

Over the weekend of 22nd, 23rd and 24th February I ran a residential football course at Leeson House, an educational centre near Swanage.

The weekend started on Friday evening with a training session held at Purbeck Sports Centre with a further session on Saturday morning before we travelled over to Dean Court to watch the game against Cheltenham. On return to Leeson House the day completed with a quiz and football DVD.

Sunday’s coaching session involved skills tests, penalty competitions, matches and fun games before a coaching display in front of the parents completing the weekend.


Bournemouth School for Girls to Represent AFC Bournemouth

Bournemouth School for Girls beat off 17 other schools to win the AFC Bournemouth Football League Girls Under 13’s Cup taking place at the Littledown Centre.

The schools were split into 4 leagues; the schools competed on a round robin basis with the top 2 teams from each league progressing through to the quarter finals (Oakmead, Bournemouth School for Girls, Poole High, Avonbourne, Twynham, Highcliffe, Lockyear’s Middle and St Edwards).

Poole High, Bournemouth School for Girls, Lockyears and St Edwards progressed through to the semi-finals.

Poole High played Bournemouth School for Girls in the first game with Bournemouth School for Girls winning 3-0, Lockyear’s and St Edwards contested the second semi with Lockyear’s coming out on top winning 4-0.

The final was very evenly contested with a superb goal from Bournemouth School for Girls during the first half proving enough to win the competition.

Bournemouth School for Girls will now represent AFC Bournemouth in the South West Regional Final in Southampton on Tuesday 5th February where they will be competing against 9 other Football League Community teams, with the winning team then progressing to the Southern Final.

The Southern winners will play the Northern winners at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 30th March 2008 prior to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final.

Kick Out Racism Campaign

First team players Marvin Bartley, Ryan Garry and AFCB Community Sports Trust Officer Steve Cuss attended Dorchester Prison to promote the "Kick Out Racism" campaign.

They were given a tour of the prison facilities, they watched a 4-a-side football competition, held a question and answer session and then presented the prison with an AFC Bournemouth scarf and pennant.

This visit followed on from the variety of activities organised at the game against Walsall.
